Mochi Making Workshop 10.13.19

Join gather on Sunday October 13th at 2pm for our new Mochi Making Workshop with Yukiko Zinke. In this fun class, you will learn how to make different mochi dishes using traditional and modern methods. You’ll also fill mochi with delicious ingredients and get to eat lots of different types. Best of all, you’ll take home a box with lots of homemade mochi to share!

What is mochi, you ask? It is a Japanese rice cake made of mochigome, a short-grain japonica rice. The rice is pounded into paste and molded into the desired shape (often with other ingredients). In Japan it is traditionally made in a ceremony called mochitsuki.

Mochi is naturally gluten free so this class is great for those with any gluten sensitivities. Also if you are vegan we can adjust the recipes in class to fit your needs - just let us know when you check out.

Yukiko Zinke grew up in Fukushima, Japan where ran a ramen restaurant with her mother, whom she learned to cook from. She has 20+ years of experience making mochi, a special treat enjoyed during festivals and traditional events. Currently she runs a cooking school, based in San Leandro which she stared with her daughter in 2016.

gather will provide wine and beer to fuel your creativity. We'll even give you a special discount on purchases at Dandelion Post (where our studio is located) during the class! Be sure to sign soon, spaces will fill up fast.
