Join gather on Saturday September 21st at 10am for our new Sandal Making Workshop with Stace Fulwiler. In this special 5 hour workshop you will learn to make your own pair of handmade leather sandals, custom fit to your very own feet.  No previous leather or shoemaking experience is necessary. Stace will teach you each step of the process and will bring all the leather, tools & supplies you'll need. Over the course of the class, you will explore every step of the sandal making process: shaping your leather soles, attaching your heels, cutting out your straps & insoles, fitting the sandal to your foot and sanding down the edges once they are complete.

We will reference a handful of simple sandal designs as a jumping off point for making your pair of dream sandals. You can choose to keep it simple and make the design as-is, or modify & customize your design to your heart’s content! If you are set on creating a specific design, we can usually make it happen.

Stace will bring the basic leather colors: black, espresso, caramel, and natural vegetable tanned leather, as well as an assortment of colorful leather & suede.

As you learn how to make your own sandals, you will also learn the basics of leather crafting and you will become familiar with the essential tools and supplies of shoe making. Starting with sandal making is a great introduction to the processes and tools one uses to construct shoes.

At the end of the workshop, Stace will finish your sandals on the belt sander, refining the fit and finishing the edges.  You will be able to walk away from the workshop wearing your newly made custom sandals!

gather will provide mimosas and light brunch snacks to fuel your creativity. We'll even give you a special discount on purchases at Dandelion Post (where our studio is located) during the class! Be sure to sign soon, spaces will fill up fast - during check out you’ll select sandal size, standard sole (most common) vs wide sole, and round toe vs square toe (see photo). Can be made in both men’s and women’s sizes.

Be sure to bring working hand and outfits. We will be cutting, kneeling, bending and standing during the sandal making process so wear something comfortable. It’s best to wear sandals as we will be getting in and out of shoes during the fitting process.
